Or you look back with fondness and nostalgia as I do to Chicago Christmases of store windows aglow along State Street, “Merry Christmas” on everyone’s lips…an usual comfort and love upon the sometimes mean, gray streets…and maybe a slow walk along Michigan Ave. in a soft snow, breathing it all in…the beauty of a city so alive, burning bright.

But there is something to be said as well for Christmas in slow motion…Christmas in the rural, in the small towns and villages of Door County, each one bringing its own small gift of Christmas cheer—white lights, wreaths, a large tree, the live goats on the roof of Al Johnson replaced by lighted reindeer. Anxiously Awaiting Snowflakes in Door County!

By the time December 1st rolls around the anticipation of winter is in the air. In Door County we love winter…ok…I love winter and here’s why:

In winter, snow clinging to the branches of trees makes my driving much more scenic.
In winter, breathing the crisp, cool air feels cleansing.
In winter, walking down a backroad or skiing in the woods gives one a feeling of connection with the beautiful ecosystem we are part of.
In winter, a trip to a coffee shop or restaurant in a nearby village is really a time to reconnect with one’s neighbors.

I could go on but I think you understand.
